Martha J. Lemasters
MOUNT VERNON — Martha Jane Lemasters (nee Michael),
83, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, in Bradenton, Fla., after
a short illness. She had moved to an assisted living apartment in October to
be near her daughter.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on June 8, 1923, she was a graduate of Kent (OH) State High School. She started her secretarial career in the 1940s with the Davey Tree Company in Kent followed by employment with Cooper-Bessemer Company, Mount Vernon, and Foote Foundry, Fredericktown. She held the position of Mount Vernon Municipal Clerk of Courts for 17 years being appointed by four consecutive mayors. She retired in 1986.
An accomplished pie baker, she lovingly shared them with her friends and neighbors.
And was known to drop off a pie for someone before she went to work. She also loved to pick strawberries for her homemade jam, enjoyed sewing and home decorating. But nothing made her happier than a family gathering at her home. She formerly attended the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Utica, and the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley (Robert) Berg, Medina; three sons, Dr. William (Janet) McDonald, Charleston, W.Va., John (Joyce) McDonald, Murray, Ky., and Gordie McDonald, Worthington; two stepdaughters, Patricia McDonald, Bellville, and Judy (Peter) Clarke, Blacksburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Ruth Keiper, Akron; and a brother, Gene Michael, Upper Saddle River, N.J., the former shortstop, manager and currently Sr. Advisor of the New York Yankees and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William McDonald and Davis Lemasters; her parents, Claude and Verna Michael; and two brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where the funeral is Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Donald L. Moody
NEW CONCORD — Donald Lee Moody, 69, of New Concord died
at 7:01 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Zanesville, a son of John and Velma (Wilson) Moody. He was a retired cattleman and former owner of Moody Feeds near Cambridge. He was a member of the New Concord United Methodist Church, Aldersgate Choir and Men’s Group, and served on various committees. He was a 1955 graduate of Chandlersville High School and a 1959 graduate of The Ohio State University. He was a member of County, State and National Cattlemen’s Association; past president of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association; member of Buckeye Beef Improvement Federation, Ohio Beef Council and Ohio Hereford Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Greene) Moody, whom he married July 3, 1960; daughter, Diane (Mike) Spurlock of Ames, Iowa; son, Greg (Laurie Clark) Moody of Columbus; grandchildren, Micah Clark Moody and Luke Clark Moody; and a brother, J. William (Karen) Moody of Fredericktown.
Memorial service was this morning at the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 E. High St., New Concord, with the Rev. Steve Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Brandon Cemetery near Mount Vernon. The Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main St., New Concord was in charge of arrangements.
