Eric ‘Rick’ Balcom
HOWARD — Eric “Rick” Balcom, 61, of Apple Valley died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2006, from injuries he received in a plane crash in Morrow County. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Homes in Mount Vernon.

Jane C. Barber
MOUNT VERNON — Jane C. Barber, 87, of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 28, 2006, surrounded by family at Knox Community Hospital. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 30, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon.

H. Virginia Booth
GALENA — H. Virginia Booth, 82, of Galena died Dec. 27, 2006, at Country View of Sunbury.

She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Columbus, the daughter of Leslie and Blanche L. (Higgins) Tilley. A lifelong Galena area resident, she was a graduate of Galena High School in 1942.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lowell W. Booth.
She is survived by a son, Pastor L. Wayne (Janet) Booth of Westerville; grandchildren, Tammy Holman and Lance Booth; a brother, Jacque (Bonnie) Tilley; four great-granddaughters; two stepgreat-granddaughters; five great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Linda Jones.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. A service giving glory to God for the life of Virginia Booth will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Road at Ohio 3, Westerville, with her son, Pastor L. Wayne Booth, officiating. Burial will follow in Burnside Cemetery.

Jeanie Byall
MOUNT VERNON — Regina “Jeanie” Byall, 71, of Melick Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Murray City, to Arthur and Evelyn (Wilson) Vernon. Jeanie worked as a clerk for Leonard’s Market and the Java Hut in Mount Vernon. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 53 years, Leroy Byall; two sons, Bud (Kara) Byall and Arthur (Stacey) Byall, both of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Theresa (Wayne Crouch) Byall of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Jenna (Jeremy) Lang, Jimmy (Susie) Byall, Shanna Grennell, Ashley Grennell, Nicholas Byall and Christopher Byall; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cierra, Noah, Autumn, Alexis, Devin, Jasmine and Kaylee; two brothers, John (Carma) Vernon and David (Carol) Vernon, both of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Susan (Larry) Snow of Howard.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack J. Vernon; and two sisters, Lena Bailey and Margaret Thompson.
A memorial service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. The family will observe a private burial in Brandon Cemetery.

Betty J. Cly
DANVILLE — Betty J. (Beach) Cly, 81, of Plum Street, Danville, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements. This information is online at www.fischerfuneralhome.com.

Lois B. Frost
TAMPA, Fla. — Lois Barbara (Chadil) Frost, 59, of Tampa, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2006, after a one-year battle with cancer. She is the widow of the late Vern Edward Frost.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jim and Jennifer Frost and Ed Frost, all of Tampa; a wonderful grandson, Brandon Arrowood of Tampa; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jane and Edward Roskowski, and Mary and John Brokaw of Mount Vernon, Ohio; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim and Kathy Chadil of Bellville, Ohio, and John Chadil of Walsenburg, Colo.; a special niece, Paula D’Stangis of Broomville, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Duane and Medina Miller.
She was the daughter of the late Alois Joseph and Margaret Mary Chadil and was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Chadil.
The family will be having a private service.

Anna Mary Gatten
MOUNT VERNON — Anna Mary Gatten, 90, passed away Dec. 25, 2006, in the Knox Community Hospital of complications she suffered from an automobile accident Oct. 6, 2006.
Anna was born March 10, 1916, in Dayton to the late Anaiello and Theresa Vitale. She married Willis M Gatten of Newark on Dec. 23, 1934. They moved to Mount Vernon in 1949. Anna worked in food service at Mount Vernon Academy until 1967 when they moved to Kettering, where she worked in food service at Kettering Memorial Hospital. In 1968 they moved to Cicero, Ind., where Anna was the food service director at Indiana Academy until she retired in 1977, and they moved to Fredericktown. She enjoyed very much working in her garden and flower beds and taking care of her fruit trees. She was dedicated to her family and loved to play table games, especially dominoes with her friends. Anna was an active member of the Fredericktown Seventh-day Adventist Church where she devoted much of her time. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Anna is survived by sons, Willis J. Gatten and wife Janice of Carry, N.C., Eugene Gatten and wife Trudy of Maricopa, Ariz., James Gatten and wife Marlene of Riverside, Calif., and Donald Gatten and wife Mary Jane of Calhoun, Ga.; daughter, Velda Capps and husband Jake of Hendersonville, N.C.; and 24 grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters, a brother, numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Willis M. Gatten; a daughter, Mary Louise Matthews; two sisters; and a brother.

A memorial service will be held at the Fredericktown Seventh-day Adventist Church. Interment will be held at a later date in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is caring for the family.
