Leslie L. Berls
SUNBURY — Leslie L. Berls, 56, of Sunbury died Saturday evening, Aug. 4, 2007, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville following a one-year illness. Arrangements will be announced by the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.

Wilber Byrd
MOUNT VERNON — Wilber Byrd, 60, of Parrott Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph ‘Jim’ Doyle
GALENA — Joseph “Jim” Doyle, 77, of Galena died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at home.

He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Cleveland to Joseph and Ethel (Collingwood) Doyle. Jim was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict and worked as a crane operator for Republic Steel.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary (Sykora); loving children, Jim Doyle, Sharon Dantzer, Kathleen Frey, Marlene Rathmann and Tim Doyle; 16 grandchildren; an expected great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Larry Sykora; sister-in-law, Ann Marie Dvorak; a host of family, friends, and canine protector Shorty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Anne Sykora; and brother-in-law, Edward Dvorak.

Friends may call today from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 9633 East Ohio 37, Sunbury, with the Rev. David Sizemore as celebrant. Committal services to follow Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. John Neumann Church Building Fund.

Robert L. Miller
BRINKHAVEN — Robert L. Miller, 15, of 32578 County Road 452, Brinkhaven, died from injuries sustained in an accident Saturday evening, Aug. 4, 2007.

He attended the Old Order Amish Church. He was born Sept. 12, 1991, in Orrville to Levi E. and Martha (Troyer) Miller.

In addition to his parents he is survived by three brothers, Michael, Steven and Aaron, and three sisters, Leah, Ada, and Marie, of the home; paternal grandparents, Eli H. and Katie Miller of Fredericksburg; and maternal grandmother, Ada Troyer of Orrville.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother; and maternal grandfather, John Troyer.

Funeral services will be held at Andrew Weaver’s residence, 31561 Ohio 206, Walhonding (Tiverton Center), on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. with Bishop Ray Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call anytime at the home.

Dale Simmons
PALM COAST, Fla. — Dale Simmons, 77, of Palm Coast, Fla., and formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at the Florida Hospital Flagler. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dustin G. Tice
GALENA — Dustin G. Tice, 30, of Galena died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He was born Oct. 9, 1976, in Columbus to Clark B. and Joy L. (Collins) Tice of Sunbury. Dustin attended Big Walnut High School before joining the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Virginia (Nicks); daughters, Julia and Megan; brother, Kurt; grandmother, Mildred Collins; parents-in-law, John and Alice Nicks; and aunts, uncles, cousins and U.S. Navy peers.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Noel Collins, and Kenneth and Polly Tice.

Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Sunbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association and burial will follow at the Waring Cemetery in Garrison, Ky.
