Robert ‘Hayes’ Gantt

CENTERBURG — Robert “Hayes” Gantt, 86, of Centerburg died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He retired from Rockwell International, and was a member of Centerburg United Methodist Church, Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM of Mount Vernon, American Legion Post 460 in Centerburg, a lifetime member of Table Rock Golf Course, and a lieutenant U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by parents, Lowell and Dulcie Gantt; and nephew, Richard H. Gantt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn; children, Deborah (Gerald) Wylie of Alabama and Timothy Hayes Gantt of Centerburg; grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Wylie, Rebecca (Aaron) Miller and Jessica Wylie; great-granddaughter, Alivia Wylie; brother, Dr. Donald (Jo) Gantt of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg. Evangelist Fred Albrecht will officiate and there will be private interment.
