Melvin ‘Gene’ Lowe

BELLVILLE — Melvin “Gene” Lowe, 84, of Bellville died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, in his home following a short illness.

He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Cedar Bluff, Va., to Marion and Artie (Newberry) Lowe.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Browning Lowe; children, Kenneth Browning, Earshel Browning and Violet (Kip) Bowman, all of Bellville, and Janice (Tom) Erndt of Sunbury; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Sara) Lowe; sisters, Thelma Burgun and Kay (Calvin) Dunford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lowe Brown.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation continues Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Lexington Church of Christ, 230 Delaware St., Lexington, where a worship celebration will follow at 11 a.m. Pastor T.J. Waters will officiate. Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.
