Larry E. Phillips

MOUNT VERNON — Larry Eugene Phillips, 60, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at the Arbors Care Center in Delaware following an extended battle with heart disease.

Larry was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Mansfield; was a graduate of Clear Fork High School; and had lived in the Mansfield, Mount Vernon and Newark areas. He served with 374th Maintenance Squadron, Pacific Air Command of the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Upon return from military service, Larry had been employed at Artesian/Borg Warner Industries in Mansfield. He enjoyed photography as a hobby, however most of his spare time was devoted to research on genealogy and family history.

He is survived by his mother, Bertha (Ferriman) Wiley of Mount Vernon; his son, Kevin Michael Phillips; his grandson, Jordan Phillips; his sisters, Marty (Darrell) Banks of Bellville, Cindy (Rodney) Davis of Trotwood, Nancy (Phil) Nichols of Halifax, N.C., and Sue Ann (Jason) Ball of Brinkhaven; his brothers, Bruce “Buzz” (Pat Hendricks) Phillips of Hawaii, Michael Wiley, Timothy (Tonie) Wiley of Mount Vernon, Patrick Wiley and Sean E. (Samantha) Wiley of Williamstown, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eugene Phillips; and his stepfather, James T. Wiley Jr.

Funeral service for Larry E. Phillips will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Gary Holman officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Bellville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m.
