Ruth Sleeman
MOUNT VERNON — Ruth Sleeman, 91, was promoted to glory on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in Mount Vernon following a brief illness.
She was born Ruth Zella Dunn on April 7, 1916, in Knox County to the late Tilton and Zella (Goon) Dunn. A lifelong resident of Knox County, she attended the Jelloway School and was a 1933 graduate of Danville High School. Ruth was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Mount Vernon for more than 50 years, serving as the League of Mercy secretary for many years, Cub Scout den mother and was a member of the Women’s Home League auxiliary.
She is survived by sons, Robert Sleeman of Terre Haute, Ind., Richard Sleeman of Mount Vernon and Donald Sleeman of Plano, Texas; stepson, Lewis “Lew” Sleeman of Mount Vernon; a stepdaughter, Madeliene (Sleeman) Delgouffre of Mount Vernon; a brother, Harry (Barbara) Dunn of Danville; several grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Sleeman, in 1984; a daughter, Judy, in 1975; sisters, Faye Nordyke, Woneta Cheuvront and Lois Daniels; and a brother, Earl Dunn.
A funeral service will be held Friday at noon at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where friends may call two hours prior. Majors Robert and Karen Bender will be officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Danville.
