Ralph G. Lahmon
MOUNT VERNON — Ralph Gordon “Shorty” Lahmon, 83, of McManis Road, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, Jan. 7, 2008, in the Emergency Room at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born Sept. 8, 1924, at Gambier, a son of William G. and Sarah Jane (McGinnis) Miller Lahmon. On Jan. 15, 1944, he married Anita Virginia Beckholt. He attended Gambier Schools. He worked at the Bogardus Family Orchard, Lakeholm Farms, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, and retired from Chattanooga Glass after 36 1/2 years of service. Shorty was a member of Kokosing Valley Antique Tractor Club and also enjoyed ponies and horses all his life.
He is survived by his wife, Anita “Susie” of nearly 64 years; two sons, Gordon (Linda) Lahmon and Terry (Lisa) Lahmon, both of Mount Vernon; and a daughter, Linda (Fred) Mickley of Danville. Grandpa Shorty enjoyed his seven grandchildren, Tammy Cline, Scott Lahmon, Jennifer Roberts, Charlotte Smith, Garrett Mickley, Bethany Lahmon and Derek Lahmon; and his four great-grandchildren, Emily and Levi Roberts, Aleyna Smith and Travis Mickley. He is also survived by a brother, Bill Lahmon; two sisters, Frances Sapp and Dorothy White; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Harry and Clarence; and four sisters, Pearl, Isabelle, Edna and Mabel Marie.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jamie Gump officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
