Will H. Lewis
MOUNT VERNON — Will H. Lewis, 93, of Clarence Court, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.
He was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Arthur and Lizette (Warner) Lewis. Will served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1977 after 29 years of employment with Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon where he was active in the choir. Will joined the Exchange Club in 1968 and in 1995 he received a gold pin for 700 consecutive meetings attended. He was also a 50-year member of the American Legion and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by two sisters, Martha Manning and Florence Godfrey, both of Morgantown, W.Va.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ota (Harris) Lewis; his second wife, Helen (Stover) Lewis; a stepdaughter, Ann House; a brother, Arthur Lewis; and a sister, Emily Vamas.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jonathan Fettig will officiate.
