Joseph J. Cheslock
NEW PHILADELPHIA — Joseph J. Cheslock, 79, of New Philadelphia passed away Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover with his family at this side. He is now reunited with his wife of 55 years, Ruth Ann, who passed in December 2005.
Born Oct. 7, 1928, Joseph was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Korpon Cheslock who resided at New Philadelphia. Joseph and his wife, Ruth Ann, were high school sweethearts and together graduated New Philadelphia High School in 1946. Married Aug. 5, 1950, they were members of Sacred Heart Church and more recently, the church’s Senior Citizens group. The Cheslock’s owned and operated the First Lady Beauty Salon in New Philadelphia for 25 years.
A life member of the New Philadelphia Elks 510 and the Knights of Columbus, Joseph began his career at Joy Manufacturing as a temporary clerk-typist in their New Philadelphia office. He held several management positions in New Philadelphia and at Joy’s corporate offices in Pittsburgh, Pa. After 44 years of service to the company, Joseph retired from Joy in 1991 as International Sales Product Manager.
Joseph is survived by his three sons, Robert (Karen) Cheslock of Dover, Greg (Sarah) Cheslock of Dublin and Jay (Debbie) Cheslock of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Allyson and Michael Cheslock of Dover and Zachary and Joshua Cheslock of Dublin; and three stepgrandchildren, Billie Jo (Ron) Gordan of Dover, Tracie (Rusty) Angel of Dundee and Amanda McCulloch of Bolivar.
A brother, Andrew Jr. (Laverne) Cheslock of Wadsworth, and sister, Susan Brady of Dover, complete the family.
In addition to his wife, Ruth Ann, Joseph was preceded in death by his mother and father, Andrew and Mary Cheslock of New Philadelphia; and brother in-law, Samuel Brady.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, Jan. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Christian Wake Services will commence at 4 p.m. Monsignor George J. Schlegel will Celebrate Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning at 10:30 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Burial will follow alongside his wife in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. The family will host a luncheon following the committal service in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., at the conclusion of the committal service.
