William R. Gillogly
HOWARD — William R. “Bill” Gillogly, 73, of Glenmonte Drive, Apple Valley community, Howard, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at his home.
He was born May 21, 1934, in Zanesville to Olney and Alma (Young) Gillogly. Bill was a 1952 graduated of Zanesville High School and a 1957 graduate from The Ohio State University. After graduation Bill served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a youth program director for the Sandusky YMCA and later taught in the Lakota School District and Clyde City Schools after completing his educational career in special education. Bill retired in 1992 from the Seneca Wyandot Office of Education in Tiffin.
Bill was a member of the Fremont Brainard Masonic Lodge 336 F&AM and was past worthy patron of the Ohio Eastern Star Chapter 133, both of Fremont. He was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, East Knox Lions Club, Christian Business Men’s Committee and The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Knox County, where he served as president for three terms. Bill was an avid fan of The Ohio State University.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara (Willer) Gillogly; two sons, Robert (Janet Zeitler) Gillogly of Austin, Texas, and Brian (Rebecca) Gillogly of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Elizabeth (Craig) Steirhoff of Castalia; seven grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Martha) Gillogly of Zanesville; a sister, Martha Gillogly of Dayton; and a sister-in-law, Helen Gillogly of Grove City.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Gillogly.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Four Mile House Cemetery at Fremont. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
