David D. McCoy

MOUNT VERNON — David D. McCoy, 69, of 15132 Carson Road, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born May 18, 1938, in Grundy, Va., to Stewart and Mary Margaret (Runyan) McCoy. He married Fay (Thomas) McCoy on Aug. 31, 1959. He worked at Cooper’s (Rolls Royce) in Mount Vernon and was a Journeyman Machinist for over 43 years. He was an adult education teacher at the Knox County Joint Vocational School, and he attended Victory Life Ministries.

He is survived by his wife, Fay McCoy of Mount Vernon; children, Thomas McCoy of Danville, David C. (Lynda) McCoy, Debra Schirtzinger and Jamyson McCoy, all of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; Eugene (Sylvia) McCoy of Florida, Glance Kelly of Mansfield, Lois (Ed) Tharp of Mount Vernon, Georgia (Leroy) Chandler of Texas, Sue (Roger) Miller of Utica, Ron (Marie) McCoy of Mount Vernon, and Wayne McCoy of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Joe, Nan, Lucille and Randle; and his stepmother, Leota McCoy.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with Dr. Steven Crabtree officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
