Barbara A. Norris
MOUNT VERNON — Barbara A. Norris, 75, of Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, passed away with her family at her side on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at her home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on July 11, 1932, in Portland, Ohio, to William and Susan (Hoback) Gainer. Barbara was a member of the Women’s Moose of Mount Vernon and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAV). She loved to garden and make fine quilts at her home. She especially enjoyed the Fun Country Dancers Club in Mansfield where she and her husband Country Western Danced. Barbara attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Virgil Norris; a son, Wayne (Louise) Norris of Columbus; a daughter, Becky Norris of Kingman, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Leslie (Kevin) Foster, Sandra (Tad) Metcalf and Robin Norris; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Mark Gainer of Hershey, Pa.; and two sisters, Grace (Harry) Holder and Marie (Charles) Bush of Racine, Ohio.
Barbara was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Norris; and a sister, Elenor Droz.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at the church, beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home.
