Duane E. Alward

SUNBURY — Duane E. Alward, 84, of Sunbury died Monday evening, Jan. 21, 2008, at St Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Hudsonville, Mich., to the late Donald and Freda (Boldt) Alward. He had lived in the Sunbury area for the past 53 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired from Boeing in Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlene (DeVree) Alward, whom he married May 21, 1947; son, Craig (Sue) Alward of Delaware; son-in-law, Michael Roof of Delaware; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lynn (Bonnie) Alward; and sister, Polly Lowing.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane E. Roof, on Dec. 21, 2007.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Burial will be Friday in the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich.
