Lelia Slaughter

MOUNT VERNON — Lelia Marjorie Slaughter, 86, of North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1921, in Florence, Ohio, to the late Robert T. and Ardist Ruth (Shepherd) Green. Lelia was a graduate of London High School and the Grant Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse at Mercy Hospital here in Mount Vernon for over 30 years and loved being a nurse. Lelia was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Wolford of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Lisa Ann (Harry Jr.) Turner of Mandeville, La.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph E. Green of West Jefferson and Robert Green of Grove City.

Lelia was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Slaughter; a sister, Ethel G. McCord; and a brother, Paul Green.

There will be no calling hours. The family will observe a private graveside service in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown at a later date. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
