Merrill L. Spearman
FREDERICKTOWN — Merrill L. Spearman, 86, of Grant Drive, Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Mount Vernon to the late Clyde and Minnie (Brown) Spearman. Merrill served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1982 after 27 years of employment with E.A. Schlairet and American Freight Trucking. He was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, the Mansfield Teamsters Retiree Club and was a past member of the Liberty Grange and the Mansfield Teamsters Local 40. Merrill had a passion for horse racing and was also a past member of the Knox County Horseman Association and United States Trotting Association.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Viola (Erckert) Spearman; a son, Larry (Ann) Spearman of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Sandra (Donnie Lones) Trowbridge of Newark; four grandchildren, Kevin (Debbie) Spearman, Lance (Karin) Spearman, Barry (Carol) Trowbridge and Lori (Andy) Mortine; 11 great-grandchildren, Olivia Spearman, Samantha Spearman, Morgan Spearman, Matthew Spearman, Lyndsee Trowbridge, Braeden Trowbridge, Allison Hetrick, Jay Hetrick, Ashlee Keaser, Kaylee Trowbridge and Emilee McAlpine; two sisters, Betty Hoovler of Fredericktown and Esther (Wayne) Balcom of Mount Vernon.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Pastor Thom Fowler will be officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Chapel Cemetery.
