Hallie V. Blevins
UTICA — Hallie V. Blevins, 96, formerly of Williamson, W.Va., died Feb. 8, 2008, in Utica. She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Whitman, Logan County, W.Va., to Bige J. and Alice (Porter) Workman. She attended and was baptized in the Wesleyan Church in Williamson, W.Va. She attended Williamson High School with the class of 1930 and was in many school activities, including the Girls Basketball Traveling Varsity Team.
In addition to her parents, Hallie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Zeb Vance Blevins (1984); daughter, Elizabeth “Bushy” Stevens (1997); two sons-in-law, T. J. Frye and Dexter Stevens; daughter-in-law, Jackie (Hess/Farley) Blevins; grandson, Daniel Murphy; sister, Nannie Lieb; and two brothers, Rufus and Hezekiah Workman.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis K. Frye of Galloway, Alice (Milton) Meadows of Utica and Mary Lou (David) Stevens of Anderson, Ind.; sons, Ray (Dora Charles) Blevins of Williamson, W.Va., and Mark Blevins of Gambier; grandchildren, Vicki, Steve, Van (Diane) Murphy, John Frye, Lynne (Geoffrey) Lieberman, Jeb (Vanessa) Blevins, Deena (Steve) Moore, Abbie (Shawn) Harpel, Buddy (Laura) Blevins, Cary (Teresa) Stevens, Dirk (Molly) Stevens, Kelley (Andre) Vatke, Chuck (Laura) Meadows, Becky (Bill) Guertal, Tony Stevens, Kevin (Ronda) Stevens, Terri (Everett) Fields, Jenny (Harold) Scott and Beth (Jeff) Gibson; great-grandchildren, Meagan and Chris (Terra) Bledsoe, Brittany (Matt) Parsonson, Vance, Moriah, Eli and Emma Murphy, Adam and J.C. (Julia) Marczika, Sarah and Samuel Lieberman, Codi and Jacob Frye, Ali and Zach Blevins, Michael Harpel, Ami (Jeff) Baumgartner, Johnny Ray Moore, Laura, Bryan, and Amanda Blevins, Heather and Luke Hurley, Brett and Brianna Stevens, Hannah, Shelby, and Luke Stevens, Julian and Katie Vatke, Hallie and Charles Meadows, Brooke, Drew, and Rachael Stevens, Kenzie Scott, Kaitlyn and Jacob Gibson; and great-great-grandchildren, A. J. and Becca Baumgartner.
Mrs. Blevins made her own funeral plans to include a brief service in three of the four states in which she lived:
On Thursday, Feb. 14: Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., 4 to 6 p.m. private viewing and visitation for Hallie’s friends and family; 6 p.m. funeral with the Rev. Bob Heizer, pastor, Owl Creek Baptist Church. On Friday, Feb. 15: Weaver Mortuary Inc., 1718 W. Third Ave., Williamson, WV 25661; 4 to 7 p.m. viewing and visitation, 7 p.m. funeral with the Rev. Bob Kincaid, pastor, Wesleyan Church. Saturday, Feb. 16: Shelter Baptist Church, 2150 Shelter Baptist Church Road, Crumpler, NC 28617, 2 to 4 p.m. viewing and visitation; 4 p.m. celebration of her life, J.E. Blevins, nephew. Interment will be at 4:30 p.m. at Scott-Blevins Cemetery with scripture and prayer by J.E. Blevins.
