George F. Teal

MOUNT VERNON — George F. Teal, 87, of Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Nelsonville to the late Wesley and Sylvia (Johnson) Teal. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Cooper Energy Service in Mount Vernon before retiring from the Mount Vernon Nazarene University. George was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by a son, Donald (Jane) Teal of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Karen Teal of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Angie Teal and Jeremy (Carrie) Teal; and four great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Ryan, Abby and Cierra.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Jane (Brooks) Teal; an infant daughter, Rosetta Teal; a grandson, Jason Scott Teal; and nine brothers and sisters, James Teal, Melvin Teal, Charles Teal, John Teal, Oscar Teal, Frank Teal, Bobby Teal, Monabelle Perry and Irene McQuaid.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Russell Downs will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
