Michael L. Park
MOUNT VERNON — Michael L. Park of Mount Vernon died peacefully Feb. 10, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born in 1925 near Columbus, grew up in Centerburg, and lived for the rest of his life in Mount Vernon. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. Michael retired from Cooper Energy Services and had worked for a number of years for the city’s street department.
Michael Park is survived by his daughters, Carole (John) Kemplin of Butler, Linda Sturdivant of Florida and Barbara (Thomas Green) Park of Connecticut; and son, Michael L. Park Jr. of Columbus; as well as two grandsons; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. In addition, he is survived by sisters, Bette Griffith and Phyllis (Winslow) Curry; brothers, Allen Park, Dawson Park and Wesley Park.
Michael was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn (Ferguson) Park; his parents, James J. and Myrtle; brothers, James, C.R. (Dick); and sister, Lily Belle Axline. Michael had many treasured friends throughout his life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to gather Thursday, Feb. 14, at noon at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, Centerburg. Interment will be in Rich Hill Cemetery will full military honors provided by Knox County Veterans Council. A reception at Table Rock Golf Club will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Hospice of Knox County in Michael Park’s memory.
