Dale F. Duston
CHESTERVILLE — Dale F. Duston, 78, of Chesterville died unexpectedly Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2008, at the Ohio State University Medical Center following an aortic aneurysm.
On July 11, 1929, Dale was born at home in Sparta, the son of the late Marion and Mildred Taylor Duston. At the age of 16, he graduated from the Sparta High School in the class of 1946, where all of his 11 brothers and sisters also graduated. While attending high school, Dale met his wife to be, Mickey Duston, whom he married on Aug. 1, 1948, in Delaware. This August would have been their 60th anniversary together. Mickey truly was the love of his life, and he would wait on her hand and foot to make sure she was taken care of.
After graduation, Dale began working at P.P.G. in Mount Vernon, where he worked as a batch mixer. Following 30 years at P.P.G. when the plant closed, he worked for Franklin Township grading roads and mowing at the North Fork Cemetery. Dale was a member of the Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church.
An outdoorsman, Dale enjoyed caring for his yard and bountiful garden. Every year, he would experiment with growing various types of melons, some of which he would make into gag gifts.
Always ornery, Dale had a “short and sweet” sense of humor, with his favorite jokes being one-liners. His fun loving personality he passed on to his son, Randy.
During the summer, Dale and Mickey looked forward to taking their grandchildren to Alum Creek Campground.
His great-grandchildren, James and Shelby, were his pride and joy and they were always together. Dale made each of them a special perch at his side where they would sit and watch TV.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mickey; three children, Judy (Dennis) Garverick of Galion and their children, Michelle (Aaron) Dials and Jeff Garverick, Laura Easterday of Chesterville, and her children, Nicole Sizemore and Megan (Jason) Michels, and Randy (Pam) Duston of West Minster, Calif., and their children, Joshua and Stephanie Duston; two great-grandchildren, James and Shelby Michels; one brother, Richard (Pauline) Duston of Mount Vernon; and two sisters, Mary Morningstar of Mount Vernon and Donna (Darwin) Horn of Newton Falls.
Including his parents, Dale was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Gerald and Harold Duston; and five sisters, Ruth Butler, Pauline Boyd, Blanche Rogers, Jeannette Oyster and Dorothy Rogers.
His family will greet friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Sopher officiating. Burial will follow in North Fork Cemetery.
