William M. O’Brien

MOUNT VERNON — William M. O’Brien, 84, of Broadway Street, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, March 7, 2008, in the emergency room at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Lewis and Mildred Sharp O’Brien. William was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by a son, Gary (Julie) O’Brien of Mount Vernon; daughters, Barbara (Jay) Morris and Nancy (John) Wolford, both of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Gary O’Brien Jr., Kyle O’Brien, Teresa Brate, Laura Mabe, Corey Daily, Randy Morris and Ronnie Morris; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Lober of Mount Vernon.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Stevens) O’Brien; a son, William O’Brien; brothers, Lewis and James O’Brien; and sisters, Eva Cline and Pauline Lauderbaugh.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. in the Mound View Cemetery with Pastor Tim Overly officiating. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will provide the military graveside services.
