James H. Bortner
SUNBURY — James H. “Jim” Bortner, 79, of Sunbury and formerly Walla Walla, Wash., died Sunday , March 16, 2008, at Grady Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 4, 1928, in Castle Rock, Wash., to Orris and Kate Naomi (Westphal) Bortner. He was a Korean conflict U.S. Navy veteran and had moved in December 2007 to Sunbury from Walla Walla and was living with his niece, Caroljean Hastilow. He was a member of the College Place Village Seventh-day Adventist Church in College Place, Wash.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Beatrice (Liu) Bortner, whom he married Feb. 14, 1960; and sister, Margaret Rogerson of Bellevue, Wash.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, John and Joseph; and sisters, Arminta Frye and Winifred Wilskey.
Graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Trenton Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
