Anthony K. Angelas

MOUNT VERNON — Anthony K. Angelas (Aggelikoussis), 97, of 118 N. Concord Drive, Mount Vernon, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born April 28, 1910, in Kardamyla, Chios, Greece, to Konstantinous and Katerina (Thruvalas) Aggelikoussis. Mr. Angelas left the Greek Merchant Marine in 1942 while an officer to come to Mansfield to join his brothers in their family restaurant business. A veteran of World War II, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Mansfield and became an American citizen. In 1947, he returned to Greece and married his wife, Kiki P. Sikoutris. They returned to the United States in 1948 and resided in Mansfield for 25 years before moving to Mount Vernon in 1972.

Mr. Angelas was a lifelong member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Mansfield and was a member of the Ahepa organization for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Mansfield. He owned and operated the Cozy restaurant in Mount Vernon until his retirement in 1989.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kiki A. Angelas; a daughter, Tina (John) Tsavaris of Mount Vernon; a son, George A. Angelas of Mount Vernon; and two grandsons, Anthony Angelas of Fredericktown and Michael Tsavaris of Austin, Texas.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleni Angelas and Kalliopi (Angelas) Mavromatis; and four brothers, George, Peter, Nicholas and Michael Angelas.

Friends may call at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, on Thursday, March 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. Trisagion service will be observed at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 265 W. Third St., Mansfield, on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Nicholas Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Angelas family plot in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Mansfield.
