Arleen Jones

MOUNT VERNON — Arleen Jones, 80, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Autumn Healthcare in Mount Vernon.

Arleen was born July 16, 1927, in Fredericktown to Foster and Maxine (Lafever) Auten and had spent her lifetime in the Fredericktown area. She graduated from Fredericktown High School as valedictorian of the class of 1945. She had been employed as the office manager at Edwards Sheet Metal in Fredericktown for many years.

Arleen was a lifelong member and had served as financial secretary for over 40 years at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. She had been active with the United Methodist Women, and had taught the Tru-Lo-So class at the church for many years. She had served on the Fredericktown Area Development Foundation and the Fredericktown Alumni Association. Arleen loved to bowl and participated in several bowling leagues at Trio Lanes in Fredericktown until she was no longer strong enough to hold a bowling ball.

Surviving are her daughters and son-in-laws, Debbie and Phil McNally of McArthur, Connie and Jim Carpenter of Fredericktown, and Bethanne and Thom McManus of Newark; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jene Scott of Mount Vernon; and twin sister, Eileen Bell of Berea.

Friends may call on Friday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
