Mildred K. Mahard
MOUNT VERNON — Mildred Kathryn Mahard, 90, formerly of Mount Vernon, died March 20, 2008, at Heartland of Bucyrus.
She was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Honaker, Va., to Herbert Larkin and Blanche Thompson Sample. Mrs. Mahard retired as a deputy in Knox County Treasurer’s Office. She was a 56-year member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ; life member and past president of Soroptimist International of Mount Vernon and Knox County; member of Knox Chapter 236, Order of the Eastern Star; Women of the Moose; and former member of the board of Ohio Junior Miss.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Livingston of Galion; grandchildren, Shawn (Denise) Livingston of Galion, Missie (David) Dickerson of Elkhart, Ind., and Jeff Livingston of Alexandria, Va.; two great-grandsons, Michael and Matthew Dickerson; three brothers, George William (Joyce) Sample of Beaumont, Texas, Robert (JoAnn) Sample of Lakeland, Fla., and Richard (Jarre) Sample of Lakeland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Mahard; sister, Grayce E. Burton; and infant sister, Sally Sample.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Church, with the Rev. Keith Stuart Ph.D. officiating. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Monday. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
