Eddie Ernest Sr.
MOUNT VERNON — Eddie C. Ernest Sr., 73, of Rangeline Road, Mount Vernon, died unexpectedly at home, Monday morning, March 24, 2008.
He was born July 22, 1934, in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Harold R. and Evah M. (Cline) Ernest.
Eddie was a lifelong member of Brandon Baptist Church. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1952 as class president. He was an active FFA member and received many awards, including State and National Awards. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University in Columbus with a degree in agricultural economics, where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Rowe. Eddie served 20 years in the Army Reserves with his highest rank as captain. He was a lifelong farmer and NRA member. Eddie was active in planning the Brandon Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies. In his spare time, he loved to fly, travel, boat, and to research and study anything that interested him. For the past 15 years, Eddie and his wife, Rose, have wintered in Florida and this past winter, they celebrated an early 50th wedding anniversary with their Florida friends. The greatest accomplishment and the one thing that Eddie was most proud of was that his children and grandchildren all know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Rose (Moore) Ernest, whom he married on May 22, 1958; his sons, Evan C. (Christina) Ernest of Utica and Eddie C. (Sherry) Ernest II of Mount Vernon; his daughters, Amy (Chuck) Rowley of Mount Vernon and Leslie (Andy) Buxton of Galena; 14 grandchildren; and his sister, Rosalie (James) Neiderhouser of Warsaw, Ind.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by an infant brother, Neil; and an infant sister, Vivian.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at the Brandon Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the St. Johns Cemetery near Mount Vernon.
