Everett L. Barrett

FREDERICKTOWN — Everett L. Barrett, 57, of Love Road, Fredericktown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Knox Community Hospital after a courageous 2 1/2-year battle with bile duct cancer.

He was born on March 14, 1951, in Mount Vernon to Everett Walter and Virginia (Salmons) Barrett. Everett had worked the past 25 years at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center where he will be sadly missed by many friends and co-workers. He was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and had a strong faith in the Lord. Everett was a loving husband, father, and a proud grandfather. He always enjoyed vacationing with loved ones in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was an avid collector of comic books and Sci-Fi memorabilia.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Nancy (Heaton) Barrett, whom he married on May 21, 1988; a daughter, Laura (Joshua) Biddle of Gahanna; a granddaughter, Abigail Biddle, whom he adored, and he had another grandchild on the way. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Michael (Linda) Barrett of Newcastle, Paul Gillespie of Parkersburg, W.Va., Randy (Jackie) Gillespie, John Gillespie, Connie St. John, Penny (Robert) Koeble, Kelly Green, all of Mount Vernon, and Holly Compton of Canal Winchester.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Gillespie Jr., Billy Joe Gillespie and Jimmy Gillespie; and a sister, Peggy (Barrett) Stacey.

A public graveside service will be held Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m. in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, April 4, at 5 p.m. at the Howard United Methodist Church, friends may visit one-hour prior. Pastor Lee Cubie will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army of Knox County.
