Audrey L. Condron

MOUNT GILEAD — Audrey L. Condron, 72, of Mount Gilead passed away early on Thursday morning, April 3, 2008, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

On Nov. 30, 1935, Audrey was born in Ashley, the daughter of the late Howard Irwin and Florence Irwin Beltz. While attending high school, Audrey met the man who would become her loving husband for over 55 years, James “Jim” Condron. They were married on Sept. 21, 1952, at his parents’ home. He lovingly cared for her in sickness and in health.

Early in their marriage, she and Jim traveled the United States and Newfoundland together with the Air Force making friends everyplace they were stationed. Then in 1962, they settled in Morrow County and built a house just outside of Marengo where they raised their children. Audrey became involved in many activities such as bowling, ceramics, TOPS, Highland Athletic Boosters, and was an unofficial cheerleader for Jim’s many softball teams.

Audrey made many friends but her family always came first; never missing a school function or the opportunity to throw a birthday party or make a Halloween costume. She loved to knit and crochet and made a special blanket for each new baby born to the family. Being a devoted wife and mother were her most important jobs.

In 1991, Audrey and Jim moved to Mount Gilead to retire and began traveling. They traveled with Freedom Years and on their own. Usual destinations became Florida with friends and Colorado to see daughter Lori. Audrey was also involved with her Marengo high school class of ’53, always planning reunion trips and outings. She and Jim also kept busy as members of the Marion YMCA and making woodcrafts as gifts.

With her countless gifts, she would share everything she had with others her entire life. She also enjoyed decorating, wallpapering, upholstering furniture and sewing.

She will be fondly missed by her husband, James “Jim” Condron; her 3 children, Lori (Dan) Hammond of Durango, Colo., Greg (Penny) Condron of Marengo and Amy (Matt) Decker also of Marengo; eight grandchildren, Jason (Rayanne) Hammond, Aaron (Heather) Condron, Amanda (Jacob) Gerasimof, Casey (Scott) White, Jennifer Condron, Christopher Condron, Brandon Sipe and Megan Decker; seven great-grandchildren; and the wonderful friends she made in her 72 years.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Florence and Walter Beltz Jr.; and father and stepmother, Howard and Flo Irwin; brother, Glen Irwin; and stepbrother, Bernie Wood.

Audrey lived a full, wonderful life, which will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Burial will follow at a later date in Union Cemetery in Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morrow County Hospice, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, OH 43338, in thanks for the comfort and care they provided. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
