Helen H. Ables
MOUNT VERNON — Helen H. Ables, 87, of Highland Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Dec. 4, 1920, in Alderson, W.Va., to the late Percy and Ruth (Hunt) Simmons. Helen worked as a cosmetology inspector for the state of Ohio and she owned and operated with her husband, William Ables, the Curtis Hotel Barber Shop and Beauty Salon. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by her son, William “J.R.” (Vicki) Ables of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Donna (Gaile) Moore of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Brad (Lee) Moore, Sheri (Richard) Saenz, Trevor Ables, Lisa Ables, Kristy Ables and Julie Ables; and a great-grandson, R.J. Saenz.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Ables; and a brother, Charles Simmons.
Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gerald Bell will be officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
