James E. Johnson

STONY POINT, N.C. — James Ernest Johnson, 61, of Stony Point, N.C., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 21, 1947, to Ezekial Ray Johnson and Betty Collien Starmer Johnson in Knox County, Ohio. His mother preceded him in death.

James was of the Baptist faith. He worked for 10 years as plant superintendent at A. Klein & Co. Inc. James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. During his years as a young man, he was an avid supporter of the Salvation Army movement. In recent years, he was a member of American Legion Post 354, Stony Point, N.C.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory include his wife, Brenda Dawson Johnson, of the home; his father and stepmother, Ray and Louise Johnson of Mount Vernon, Ohio; one son, Scott Johnson and wife, Sarah Hodges Johnson, of Hickory; one daughter, Robin Eller and husband, Bryan, of Ronda, N.C.; Michele Smith and husband, Jason, of Wilkesboro; six grandchildren, Scottie, Lee and Sarah Johnson, all of Wilkesboro, Zachary Johnson of Hickory, Sarah Johnson of Wilkesboro and Ciara and Mindy Eller of Ronda, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Navin Owings Stackhouse of Huntersville, N.C.; three stepgrandsons, Jody Martin of Charlotte, Charlie and Jack Stackhouse of Huntersville, N.C.; one brother, Glen Johnson and wife, Carolyn, of Roaring River, N.C.; two sisters, Johanna Cline and husband, Paul, and Linda Stanley and husband, Gary, all of Danville, Ohio; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. Funeral service will be Friday, April 18, at 1 p.m., in AFS Chapel. The Rev. Gary Jennings will officiate. Burial will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens in Moravian Falls. Pallbearers are Scott Johnson, Scottie Johnson, Bryan Eller, Bud Goodman, Lee Johnson, Joe Martin, Tony Davis and Mike Holloway.
