Hazel H. Ferris
HOWARD — Hazel Helen Ferris, 86, of Brush Run Road, Howard, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
Hazel was born Sept. 18, 1921, at Howard to Joseph and Emma (Workman) Durbin and had spent her lifetime in Knox County. She was a graduate of Howard High School, was a former member of the Sweet Adeline’s and the Holy Ghost Singers. Hazel had been a very active member of the Roaring ’20s Club in the Howard area. She attended the Woods Christian Church and the Millwood Church of Christ.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Dickerson of Howard and Linda Marlene Frazee of Mount Vernon; four grandsons, Robert Lee Dickerson of Howard, Neal Patrick (Wendi Tarrh) Dickerson of Mount Vernon, Joseph Wayne Frazee of Mount Vernon and Daniel Lee (Vanessa) Frazee of Martinsburg; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis James Ferris, whom she married Oct. 18, 1940; a son, Arthur Dean Ferris; a son-in-law, Gary Dickerson; and three sisters, Nora Wolfe, Zelma Frye and Lovey Yarman.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Evangelist Dave Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour before the funeral service.
