Galen Lloyd Reed
MOUNT VERNON — Galen Lloyd Reed, 82, of Woodberry Drive, Mount Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2008, at his home surrounded by his caring family.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Perry Township, a son of the late Ray and Mazie (Teeter) Reed. Galen retired from the United Telephone Co. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple and a World War II Navy veteran earning the rank of Radar 2nd Class. He was lifetime member of VFW. Galen had also been the manager at Casa Del Rey Park for 16 years.
Galen was a man who loved the Lord, his family and friends, and his country.
Galen will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Marceline (Latham) Reed; his daughter, Pamela (Lee) Baldwin of Mount Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Reed of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Shelly (Scott) Laslo of Mount Vernon, Melissa (Matt) Stier of Cincinnati, Garrett Reed and T.J. Reed, both of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jarrod Laslo, Jordyn Laslo and Carson Stier; three brothers, Robert Reed of Mansfield, Chalmer (Geraldine) Reed of Fredericktown and Duane Reed of Florida; and a sister, Inez Hershner of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Reed; and two sisters, Irene Ruhl and Stella Randall.
The family will have a memorial service celebrating the life of Galen on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, 1481 Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Bill Fennell officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown, with military graveside services provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
