Hollis E. Boston
MOUNT VERNON — The Rev. Hollis Edward Boston, 82, of Beech Street, Mount Vernon, entered heaven April 27, 2008, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Gorin, Mo., at home. He was the 11th of 13 children of Charles and Lucretia (Langley) Boston. Hollis served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii and the South Pacific. He met his bride Thelma Louise Wagner at Olivet Nazarene College and married her on Jan. 15, 1949, in Bourbonais, Ill.
Hollis was a minister in the Church of the Nazarene for 43 years after becoming an ordained elder in 1965. He pastored in the following churches: Findlay First, Leipsic, Wellington, Lorain, Pataskala, Fredericktown, Monticello (Indiana), Cleveland Westside, Van Wert, Countryside and Clyde, Ohio.
He is survived by four children, Alice (Rev. Buck) Traylor of Andover, Carol (Rev. Larry) Hall of Mount Vernon, Betty Green of Wilmington and Mark Edward (Sherri) Boston of Plant City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Geraldine Clark of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Iven (Marilyn) Boston of Keokuk, Iowa.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Boston; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Larry Hall will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon with military graveside services provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
