John Caruso Sr.

MOUNT VERNON — John A. Caruso Sr., 91, of Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 1, 2008, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.

John was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Monroe Township, N.J., a son of the late Antonio and Mary (Qurqueso) Caruso. John was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 847 in Mount Vernon, and a charter member of the Fourth Degree, Father John Baptist Lamy Assembly 2970, Danville/Mount Vernon.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Schiano) Caruso, whom he married Nov. 15, 1986; a son, John A. Caruso Jr. of Monroe Township, N.J.; daughters, Jo Ann (Edward) Mixtacki and Deborah Best, both of Monroe Township, N.J.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Caruso; and a brother, Leonard Caruso.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 5, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. The Rev. Mark J. Hammond will be the celebrant. A Fourth Degree Honor Guard will be provided by the Father John Baptist Lamy Assembly.

Graveside service will be in the Saint James Cemetery in Jamesburg, N.J., at noon on Wednesday, May 7.

The family has requested no flowers to be sent to the funeral home.
