Francis J. Meier
MOUNT VERNON — Francis J. Meier, 89, of Mount Vernon died May 2, 2008, at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Galena to the late William and Mary (Verfer) Meier. Mr. Meier was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran serving in Africa and Europe. He was a retired railroad freight handler and farmer.
He is survived by two daughters, Julie Meier of Columbus and Jodell (Dave) Fischer of Powell; four sons, Gregory (Rose) Meier of Wauseon, Mark (Mary) Meier of Mount Vernon, Matthew (Diane) Meier of Delaware and Jerry (Deborah) Meier of Parissipany, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, Noah (Valerie), Tyler (Katie), Grant (Libby), Melissa, Jon Paul, Erin, Kimberly, Todd, Alexis and Whitney; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Emma and Molly; two sisters, Irene Reisbeck of Newark and Bernardine (Andrew) Kappner of Columbus; brother-in-law, Anthony (Regina) Reis of Cincinnati; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Loretta Reis Meier, in September 2005; two brothers, Girard Meier and William Meier; and three sisters, Leolla Cline, Mary Tierney and Josephine Mumford.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, with a prayer service starting at 7:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Burial with military honors from the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Calvary Cemetery.
