APISON, Tenn. — Lois Marie Stockberger-Johnston, born in Ashland, Ohio, 84, died at her home in Apison, Tenn., on April 13, 2008, after an extended illness.

She loved Jesus, her Savior, and belonged to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She spent many hours working with the Adventist Community Services in Mount Vernon and volunteering at area hospitals during the years she lived in Florida. She lived in the Mount Vernon, Ohio, area from 1958-78.

She is survived by her four children, Sue (Val) Christopher of Apison, Tenn., Allen (Deena) Stockberger of Gambier, Ohio, Tonda (Mark) Snoey of Apison, Tenn., and Mark Smith of Lynchburg, Va.; two stepchildren, Donna Johnston of Clarkston, Mich., and Ted (Rebecca) Johnston of White Lake, Mich.; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (Wilbur) Swain of Amanda, Ohio, Grace (Jerald) Radcliff of Columbus, Ohio, and Mildred (Homer) Warrick of Newark, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends that will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Daisy (Wells) Helser; her two husbands, Wayne Stockberger, in 2000, and Gil Johnston, in 2007; and her two sisters, Alice Smith, in 1995, and Dorothy Lucas, in 2002.

A memorial service is planned for May 24 at 4 p.m. in Apison, Tenn., at the Apison Seventh-day Adventist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of choice.
