Geneva L. Snell

LEXINGTON — Geneva L. Snell, 96, of Lexington, formerly of Fredericktown, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Lexington Court Care Center in Lexington.

Geneva was born March 20, 1912, in Morrow County to Vincent and Emma (Warner) Melcher and spent most of her lifetime raising her family on a farm near Waterford. She was a member of the first graduating class of Johnsville High School in 1930 and attended one year at a school for the culinary arts. Geneva had been employed as a registered dietitian for Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon, Hillcrest Nursing Home near Bellville, Morrow Manor Nursing Home at Chesterville and Northside Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. She attended the Waterford United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and the Lexington Senior Citizens Club where she was known for her prowess as a euchre player.

Surviving are her sons, Darrell (Silver) Snell of Fredericktown, Sam (Carleen) Snell of Bellville and Frank (Diana) Snell of Johnstown; her daughters, Barbara (Charles) Logan of Lexington, Sandra Hunt of Galion, Sevilla Ault of Galion, Cheryl (Rodney) Furniss and Janenne Burgett, both of Fredericktown; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Samuel Snell; three sons, Dale Snell, Charles Snell and Gene Snell; her brother, John Melcher; and two sisters, Kathryn Melcher and Bessie Smith.

Friends may call Sunday, June 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral service will be Monday, June 9, at 11 a.m., with Mr. Raymond Linn officiating. Burial will follow at North Fork Cemetery near Waterford.
