George D. Flecknoe

MOUNT VERNON — George D. Flecknoe, 72, of Mount Vernon died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Arthur James Cancer Hospital in Columbus following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

George was born May 27, 1936, in Mount Vernon to the late George F. and Mabel L. (Frye) Flecknoe and had spent his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. He owned and operated Community Garbage Service in Knox County for 20 years and sold that business in 1994. He then worked part time as a driver for Central Ohio Fabricators in Mount Vernon. He had an interest in antique and classic cars having owned a 1954 Plymouth Belvedere and a 1957 Ford F100 pickup truck participating in many car shows through out the area.

George was a member of the Covenant Church of God in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are his wife, F. Estelle (May) Flecknoe, whom he married Oct. 15, 1955; his daughter, Debbie (Richard Agler) Flecknoe of Mount Vernon; his grandson, Aaron (Nikki Williams) Flecknoe of Mount Vernon; his great-granddaughter, Brianna Bell Flecknoe; his brother, Frank E. Flecknoe of Fredericktown; and four sisters, Irene (Robert) Frank, Mary (William) Styers and Pat (Roger “Tom”) Carpenter, all of Mount Vernon, and Frances (Edward) Schlairet Sr. of Guyton, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Overly officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
