Thelma G. Baker

MOUNT VERNON — Thelma Grace Baker, 94, formerly of Springfield, passed away June 5, 2008, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.

Thelma was born May 28, 1914, in Springfield to Eli and Clara (Gammell) Hillard. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ellsworth L. “Bunny” Baker; and her twin sister, Alma E. Snyder. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Sue (John G.) Owens of Mount Vernon.

Thelma was a lifetime member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield, where she served as Altar Guild Chairwoman for many years. She was a member of United Elderly, Alpha Xi Delta Mothers Club and the Animal Welfare League. She was especially proud of her 9,000 hours of volunteer service in the Special Care Unit at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.

There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made in Thelma’s name to the Knox County Humane Society, 400 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; or to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
