Lillian M. Rowand
HOWARD — The Rev. Lillian Marie Rowand, 91, of Apple Valley Drive, Howard, passed away Monday morning, June 16, 2008, at her home.
She was born March 8, 1917, in Orrville, a daughter of the late Monroe W. and Mary Marie (Nickerson) Derfer. Rev. Rowand graduated from the Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo. She was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God in Mount Vernon. Rev. Rowand was an ordained minister for the Assembly of God Church having been ordained in 1951.
Rev. Rowand is survived by her husband, Carl O. Rowand, whom she married on Oct. 7, 1978; a brother, Charles (Louise) Derfer of Columbus; and a sister, Viola (Clyde) Rhodes of Howard; a stepdaughter, Deborah Rowand of Rittman; and four stepgranddaughters.
In addition to her parents, Rev. Rowand was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Derfer, Robert Derfer, Walter Derfer and Monroe Derfer Jr.; and sisters, Helen Roop, Mary Alice Derfer, Evelyn Bertelle and Carolyn Miller.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19, at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Assembly of God Church, 2061 Wadsworth Road, Orrville, with Pastor Don Matolyak and the Rev. John Wootton officiating. Friends may call Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
