Paul ‘Pete’ Bickel

MOUNT VERNON — Paul R. “Pete” Bickel, 84, of Mount Vernon died Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following an apparent heart attack.

Paul was born April 26, 1924, in Knox County to Alex and Armeda Pearl (Simpson) Bickel and had spent his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. Pete was a 1943 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon, where he had been employed for over 30 years in the mailroom and maintenance department.

Pete was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon and was a life member and a 50-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mount Vernon, where he was past quartermaster.

Surviving are his sisters, Jean Wolford and Maxine (Donald) Hinkens, both of Mount Vernon; his fiancée, Millie Sellers of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Edie Bickel of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Jackie Bickel; sisters, Pauline Phillips and Sarah Hissong; and brothers, Robert G. Bickel and John Bickel.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
