Richard E. Kimble

MOUNT VERNON — Richard E. “Dick” Kimble, 71, of Mount Vernon passed away Friday evening, July 11, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital after a long illness.

He was born April 20, 1937, in Mount Vernon to the late Kenneth E. and Ruth (Norris) Kimble. Richard graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1956 and then entered the U.S. Army. Upon his return from the service he was employed by the old Quatman Co., where he retired from in 1987; later known as United Telephone Service. Dick was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, where he operated the sound system for many years. He was a past president of the Mount Vernon Band Boosters and was involved in many school and community activities.

He leaves behind his wife, Sue; two brothers, Frederick Kimble of Mount Vernon and James (Colleen) Kimble of Omaha, Neb. Richard was the father of Susan (David) Whitney of Oregon; Keith Kimble of Pickerington; Lisa Ringwalt of Springfield; Amy (Eugene) Sawan of Akron; Julie (David) Lee of Muskegeon, Mich.; Mary Beth Ringwalt-Miller of Cincinnati; and Heather (Jay) Sullivan of Northfield, Mass. He also leaves 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Gail Kimble.

Memorial services are being planned for later this week. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Kimble family.

The Kimble family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dick’s name to Gay Street UMC Living Memorial or the American Cancer Society. Condolences for the Kimble family may be sent through the funeral home’s Web site at www.dilleyfuneralservice.com.
