Robert L. DeRoo
WARSAW — Robert Lester DeRoo, 83, of Church Street, Warsaw, died July 29, 2008, at the OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Bayshore Long Island, N.Y., to the late Harry and Elsie (Haag) DeRoo. He was a mechanical engineer employed for 37 years with General Electric. He was a graduate of Michigan University. He attended the Warsaw Presbyterian Church and the Dutch Run Trinity United Church of Christ. He was an active member of the Warsaw Lions Club, where he enjoyed singing in the chorus of the annual minstrel show.
He is survived by three daughters, Janet (George) McCoy of Warsaw, Christine (George) Thomas of Savannah, Ga., and Elizabeth Schoch of Stroudsburg, Pa.; a son, Peter (Linda) DeRoo of Toms River, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and one stepgranddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth E. (De Graff) DeRoo, whom he married Oct. 23, 1948. She died July 31, 1999.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Dutch Run Trinity United Church of Christ, 30578 County Road 20, Warsaw, with Pastors Wayne Harman and Tim Thomas officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Sayville, N.Y. Calling hours will be Sunday evening, Aug. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. The Warsaw Lions Club will hold a memorial service Sunday at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home; www.fischerfuneralhome.
