Philip A. Durbin

JOHNSTOWN — Philip Andrew Durbin, 44, of Johnstown passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 30, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 555 S. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Reichert as celebrant. Internment to follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown.

Philip was born July 10, 1964, in Mount Vernon. He was a 1983 graduate of Danville High School, also attended Knox County Vocational School. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, as a materials storage & distribution specialist. He was the recipient of several awards. Philip was an active volunteer on the Johnstown Fire Department and was employed by Hendren Trucking for the past six years. He was active in the local Cub Scout Troop.

Philip is survived by his wife, Marta (Luft); two sons, Jacob and Matthew; his father, Paul (Jan) Durbin; 12 siblings; Ben (Pat) Durbin, Dennis (Jan) Durbin, Ann (Dave) Hendren, Don (Karen) Durbin, Margaret Moore, George (Marcia) Durbin, Becky Durbin, Jim (Pam Lacy) Durbin, Brenda (Eric) Stutz, Steve (Crystal) Durbin, Megan Durbin, Emily (Matt) Remillard; father- and mother-in-law, Jay and Barbara Luft; sister-in-law, Joni (Ed) Carle; two brothers-in-law, Andrew (Jan) and Minh (Kim) Luft, along with many nieces and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his mother, Lauretta; and brother, David.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, with a 7 p.m. Prayer Vigil. Memorial contributions can be made in loving memory of Philip to the Durbin Memorial Fund at any Park National Bank location.
