Eleanor M. George
MOUNT VERNON — Eleanor M. “Rusty” George, 96, of North Catherine Street, Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born Nov. 12, 1911, in Knox County, a daughter of the late Alfred George Shutt and Lenora Icy (Bricker) Shutt. Eleanor was a 1930 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and had spent her lifetime in Mount Vernon.
Eleanor was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, where she was involved in the Mary Circle. She was also a member of the Mount Vernon Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Mount Vernon Lioness Club and was a member of the board of directors of the former Hannah Browning Home in Mount Vernon. Eleanor was in retail sales and a buyer for the former Ringwalt’s Department Store in Mount Vernon for 48 years.
Eleanor is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty George of Mount Vernon; niece, Sylvia Chrisman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield S. George; sisters, Edna Watson and Neva Shutt; and a brother, Fred Shutt.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Aug. 11, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Warren Outhwaite and Paul Beal officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
