William L. Ashcraft
MOUNT VERNON — William Lester Ashcraft, 82, of Mount Vernon died Aug. 11, 2008, at the Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Frazeysburg to Clarence and Essa Ashcraft. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a 50-year member and Past Master of the Ohio Lodge 199 F&AM, member of Glenwood Chapter 303 OES, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a longtime employee of General Motors, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Annabelle (Miller) Ashcraft; stepdaughter, Linda (James) McCarron of Hilton Head, S.C.; stepgrandson, Greg McCarron of New Albany; nieces, Dolores Starkey of Columbus, Kay (Larry) Lauderbaugh of Lexington and Paula (Dean) Phillips of Bryan; and nephew, John (Marsha) Ashcraft of Fredericktown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Ashcraft and a sister, Rosa Shuster.
At Bill’s request there will be no calling hours. Graveside service will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Jamie Gump officiating.
The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, is handling the funeral arrangements for the Ashcraft family.
