Ralph Knight Jr.
MESA, Ariz. — Ralph Knight Jr., 76, of Mesa, Ariz., (formerly a longtime resident of Mount Vernon), died on Aug. 11, 2008, in Tempe, Ariz., with his family by his bedside.
Ralph was born on Dec. 8, 1931, in Jewett, Ohio, and was the son to the late Ralph and Hazel (Sterns) Knight. After serving his country in the Korean War and earning the Bronze Star, he joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He retired in 1981 as a sergeant with 30 years of service. He worked in Ashtabula, Mount Vernon and Athens during his career. Upon his retirement he traveled and camped year-round. He enjoyed meeting and talking to people wherever he went and was an avid tennis player for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Logan, whom he married on June 6, 1959; his children, Joe (Desi) of San Antonio, Jewell Ann (Karim) of Cincinnati, Jeff (Laura) of Roaming Shores, and Tim (Amy) of Heath; brothers and sisters, Gary (Connie) of Jewett, Karen (John) of Hartville, Joann (Mike) and Ilene of Cambridge, and Bob (Kim) of Jewett; grandchildren, Catrina, Becky, Jennifer, Michelle, Logan, Alexandria, Chelsea, John, Heather, Todd, Ian and Rachel; and three great-grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by a grandson, Ralph Peoples.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. David A. Baker officiating. Burial with military graveside conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be in Mound View Cemetery.
