Walter K. Goeppinger
MOUNT VERNON — Walter Kurt Goeppinger, 70, of Johnstown Road, Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
Walter was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Mount Vernon to the late Karl and Berta (Duemmler) Goeppinger, was a 1956 graduate of Centerburg High School and had spent his lifetime in the Knox County area. He retired from American National Can in Mount Vernon, where he had been employed for 44 years as a slitter man and a boiler operator. He had also maintained his own business, Walt’s Septic Tank Service in the Mount Vernon area for 45 years. He was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge, VFW Post 4027, AMVETS and Eagles Lodge, all in Mount Vernon, and the Centerburg Conservation Club.
Surviving are his wife, Harriett (Girard) Goeppinger, whom he married Sept. 19, 1959; his daughter, Teresa Goeppinger of Mount Vernon; his brothers, Arthur (Jean) Goeppinger and Emil (Betty) Goeppinger, both of Mount Vernon, and Frank (Lynn) Goeppinger of Sparta; and his sisters, Margareta (Walter Earl “Nub”) Kirkpatrick of Butler and Rosalinda (Bob) Heinlen of Mansfield.
Private funeral service will be held at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield, Ill.
