Florence Kostohryz
DENTON, Texas — Florence Elizabeth (Shaw) Kostohryz, 82, of Denton, Texas, died from cancer at her residence on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Mount Vernon to Walter Shaw and Vivian (Ross) Shaw. After graduating from Danville High School, Florence became an X-ray technician in Cleveland. Her marriage of 53 years to Joseph James Kostohryz began on Sept. 23, 1949, in Berea, Ohio. Because of her deep faith in Jesus Christ, she actively served others wherever she lived. She was a Sunday School and Bible study teacher, a Girl Scout leader, an election-precinct volunteer, and a social activities director. Her desire to give to others was evident to everyone she met. A devoted mother, wife and grandmother, Florence will always be remembered for her home-cooked meals, her love of gardening, and how she danced through life.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey James Kostohryz, on April 30, 2008; husband, Joseph Kostohryz, on Dec. 14, 2002; brother, Kenneth Shaw; parents; and infant son, Gary.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Markwood of Perrysburg; son, Kelvin (Kathy) Kostohryz of Norwalk, Conn.; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Kostohryz of Denton, Texas; her brother, Byers Shaw of Washington Court House; and her eight grandchildren.
