MOUNT VERNON — Betty Little, 88, devoted wife and mother, passed away on Sunday evening at Knox Community Hospital after a more than 40-year valiant battle with effects of a massive stroke.
She was born Aug. 26, 1919, to John and Essie McKenzie near Amity. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School and lived the last 65 years in Mount Vernon. Betty loved cooking and sewing and was an avid reader and bridge player. She helped give her sons a love for learning. She loved her pets, most recently her cat Smokey. She followed national events and sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and Tiger Woods. She had a keen sense of humor and tried to encourage all those who came her way.
Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Parrish “Pete” Little of Mount Vernon; her sons, Doug (Karen) Little of Ashland and Mike (Loretta) Little of Ashland; grandchildren Justin, Anna, Ashton and Maria Little; her nephew, David (Betty) Cornell of Avon Park, Fla.; and her cousin, Bud McKenzie.
She was preceded in death by her father, John McKenzie; her mother, Essie McKenzie Hyatt; her brother, Fred McKenzie; and her sister, Ruth Stricker. Betty knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and has entered His rest.
A funeral service for close family members will be held at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, Aug. 21, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bruce Wilkinson officiating. A private burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Little Family.
